Become a Mental Health First Aider
(face-to-face and online delivery available)

Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) is an internationally recognised training course that teaches you how to spot the signs and symptoms of mental ill-health and provide help on a first aid basis, even in a crisis situation. It won't teach you to be a counsellor, therapist or diagnostician but will teach you how to listen, reassure and respond.

Training is delivered by quality trainers who have completed the MHFA England Instructor Training programme, which is accredited by the Royal Society for Public Health.

The face-to-face Mental Health First Aider course is a full two day programme, delivered through a mix of presentations and various learning activities including quizzes, group work, videos, case studies and reflective activities. The two days can be back to back or spread out one week apart (eg Monday and Monday).

The online version is delivered through a mix of individual online learning and four tutor led live sessions. The live sessions can be delivered flexibly over a few days or a couple of weeks, whatever your preference.

The learning outcomes for both the face-to-face and online versions are the same, where Mental Health First Aiders have:

  • An in depth understanding of mental health and the factors that can affect wellbeing

  • Practical skills to spot the triggers and signs of mental health issues

  • Confidence to step in, reassure and support a person in distress

  • Enhanced interpersonal skills such as non-judgemental listening

  • Knowledge to help someone recover their health by guiding them to further support - whether that’s self-help resources, through their employer, the NHS, or a mix

Attendee numbers are recommended at a minimum of 6 and maximum of 16 per group and each will receive:

  • A Mental Health First Aider certificate upon completion of the course

  • Comprehensive course materials that includes a manual, workbook and quick reference guide of the Mental Health First Aid action plan
